Part 16

Like what I said earlier, at the end of Nakamise Dori in Asakusa, you will find the Sensoji Temple.

p1

From Japan-Guide:

Sensoji (浅草寺, Sensōji, also known as Asakusa Kannon Temple) is a Buddhist temple located inAsakusa. It is one of Tokyo’s most colorful and popular temples.

The legend says that in the year 628, two brothers fished a statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy, out of the Sumida River, and even though they put the statue back into the river, it always returned to them. Consequently, Sensoji was built nearby for the goddess of Kannon. The temple was completed in 645, making it Tokyo’s oldest temple.

When approaching the temple, visitors first enter through the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate), the outer gate of Sensoji Temple and the symbol of Asakusa and the entire city of Tokyo.

A shopping street of over 200 meters, called Nakamise, leads from the outer gate to the temple’s second gate, the Hozomon. Alongside typical Japanese souvenirs such as yukata and folding fans, various traditional local snacks from the Asakusa area are sold along the Nakamise. The shopping street has a history of several centuries.

Wowa’s here by the Hozomon gate.

p2

Upon entering the Hozomon gate, you will see a five storey pagoda. It’s beautiful.

p3

There were a lot of places here where I saw Buddhist prayed.

p4

p7

A saw a lot of people doing the clap clap thingy ritual that other people were doing at the Meiji Shrine.

Completely wrong.

The Sensoji Temple is for Buddhists while Meiji Shrine is for a different religion.

Here’s the #WithMommyFleur photo for the Sensoji Temple.

p7a

There were a lot of people that were there.

p8

p9

I wanted to try what this Japanese girl was doing. It seemed that she was getting a stick from that silver canister then reading what number or code that was written there and then she would open the corresponding drawer and get a piece of paper. Her fortune was written in the paper.

p10

p11

Like in the Meiji Shrine, they also have here a place where to wash their hands and mouth.

p12

It was a good experience, really. Should you be in Tokyo, punta din kayo dito. It’s a beautiful place, rich with Japanese culture.

Since it was so hot, I bought this Kamote ice cream on our way out of the compound.

p13

It was so good!!! =)

I love Japan talaga =)
